9TH ANNUAL BELLYDANCE EVENT HITS OLD TOWN KERN
“
On Saturday, November 7, 2009, local bellydance troupe, The Camel’s Tassel, along with Troupe Al Zahra from Visalia and the Central Valley Chapter of MECDA, will host their 9th Annual "Caba-Ribal" Multi-Cultural Festival featuring bellydancers from all over the Central Valley and our very own Bakersfield. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at Narducci’s Café from 11 am to 7 pm.
Created in 1977, the Middle Eastern Culture and Dance Association (MECDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community as a source of education, communication, promotion, and inspiration for the near and middle east music, dance, and arts community worldwide. Members include dancers, musicians, artists, and other persons interested in Near East and Middle Eastern culture, music and dance. MECDA’s goal is to bring a sense of unity to a richly diverse community as well as celebrate the culture and its arts.
It was in that spirit of inclusion that the word “Caba-Ribal” was first coined when the Central Valley Chapter was formed back in 2001. At its inception, the term was intended to serve as a constant reminder that this Festival was the first of its kind, bringing together two totally different types of bellydancers – CABAret and tRIBAL – which typically did not mingle with one another. The event, which has always featured a variety of dance forms, will also showcase world music, pulsating and spontaneous live drumming, colorful costumes, and an opportunity for those brave enough to get out on the floor and experience the thrill of “open dance”. Killer sounds for this awesome event are being provided by local DJ Josex.
We’d love to have you join us for the day (or at least stop by) and support bellydance in the Central Valley. No matter what time you arrive, participants will enjoy alluring music, dance performances, entertainment of all sorts, good food and exotic drink specials concocted especially for this event - - “the cock-eyed camel” and the “Bedouin bomb”. And of course, we know you wouldn’t want to miss out on the opportunity of shopping at our outdoor Souk! If you are looking to impress someone special with a unique gift, then this is the place to do it. Fabulous vendors will bring beautiful handmade finds and imported treasures from all over the Middle East that we guarantee you won’t be able to find at any other shop in town.
Event will be held at Narducci’s Café, 622 East 21st Street, just off Baker in Old Town Kern. Admission is only $10 and parking is free. Please note that no video cameras are allowed. If you have any questions, you can contact the event organizer at (661) 340-0828 or visit their web-site for full details at www.Caba-Ribal.com.
