LOL!! Uh yeah, sounds like the Mariachi was waaaaaaay full of spirit! LOL!

Those suckers are expensive and then the next year I see them in their "yard sale" box when they spring clean their rooms priced for a dollar. grrrrrrr. hahaha

It was a great concert. Are you gonna go next year if he tours through Bakersfield with Juan Sebastian? My mom just about passed out when he said they were touring together next year! We got great seats too, thanks to the MAS shout out, we were online right at 10:00am the morning they went on sale and were able to secure 7th row seats. Awesome concert! His backup singers were amazing, weren't they? WOW! And the mariachi was full of spirit! As we were walking out one of the mariachi guys was joking around saying, "Get in line, ladies, get in line" and pointing to the tour bus. ha. As if.... (well maybe if I didn't have my mom and nana with me... hehehe)

I remember how my Chicano studies professor once told me that "gringo" came from Mexicans describing American soldiers in their green coats.. green coats... green go... But gringo is just one I have heard. I know Tejanos also have another term for gringo though I don't know if it's offensive. I think "gabachos" might offend some people...

I love Los Tigres, too! When I was engaged to my husband, he took me to my first baile in Texas. I was in my early 20s then. Man, it was so cool! It was in a small town called La Feria, right near the border. I had so much fun!

I agree with you about music.... It is a powerful element... I don't think I can go one day without listening to music.. and I listen to all kinds of music.. Cafe Tacuba, Chente, Ramon Ayala are some my all-time favorites!

Mi Vida : "Dolores Huerta Birthday"

What special memories you have...and the one about your sister, Rosa! Hilarious. I think we've all had a sister who's crashed into something. I was that sister for my older sister who tried to teach me how to drive and I was driving too fast in a residential area that had dips in the intersection...well the car slammed through that intersection... good thing i didn't mess up her transmission!

But those childhood experiences that your parents gave you must have really made a lasting impact on life and influenced you in how you followed your own path, stood up for the right thing, and understood the struggles of farm worker families.

Mi Vida : "Dolores Huerta Birthday"

"She thanks two farmworker families whose fathers and mothers played a big role during the early United Farm Worker days."

I would also like to recognized my mother (Refugio Serrano) and father (Jose Pablo Serrano) who fought along with Cesar Chavez. Everything they did in those days had to do with the "Huelga". My father attended many meetings at the "40 Acres" and he, my brother and I marched from Lodi to the capital where we united to meet the governor who never showed.

It was a great experience and we met a lot of people along the way. I was 16 yrs old at that time and supported everything my father and mother stood for and they supported everything that Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta stood for. Cesar and Dolores's name was a daily topic in our household. My mother was recognized last year in San Jose for her efforts with the Union at her Senior Citizen Center on Alum Rock Ave. My mother was also recognized as one of the oldest and active members there. She will be 91 on July 4th.

Dolores reminds me of my mother in that they are both energetic and like to dance and do it at every opportunity. I'm proud to say that I have also danced with both ladies at different events. They both love to spin.

I won't get into the story when I was teaching my younger sister, Rosa, to drive out in the country with my 60 Chevy Impala. We drove by the 40 Acres and I asked Rosa to turn in through the rock bridge over the irrigation canal and into the 40 Acres parking lot. She hit the gas instead of the brakes and ran right into the bridge. My car's right front fender was bent beyond repair. That is a different topic and memories that I will never forget. "Those were the memories".
