About Twinkie
Hi everybody! My name is Norma but my nickname is Twinkie. It might sound like a silly name, but in fact... well it is. It was given to me in high school by a very dear friend of mine who passed away, so in honor of her, I kept it.

I am originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, MX and grew up partly in Colonia Santa Cecilia and partly in Tijuana.

When I was about 9 years old my family made the big move into the United States and we've been here ever since. By "family" of course I mean my mom, dad, older brother and sister. My parents had four more children which they raised in McFarland. By "they" of course I mean my wonderful mom and my older sister. My dad's job as a father was complete as far as he was concerned when he helped conceive them.
I graduated from McFarland High School in 1989. I am now married and have four children the ages of 17, 16, 8, and 7. They are my world. I never really understood that phrase until I became a mother.

I love to read and belong to Bakersfield Chicana Book Club. The name is deceiving. It's not just women, there are men in the group. And it's not just Chicanos... it's people of all races who love to read and support Chicano Authors.

I love to write and have been blogging/writing my crazy random thoughts on bakotopia.com. But I love MAS Magazine so I thought I'd join this online community as well.
*If you want information about the book club just send me a message.
Well, I guess by now I probably told you more than you needed to know so that's all. For now. I hope you enjoy reading my crazy random thoughts!
OH.. and another thing.. I LOVE THIS MAN!

"The people who say that (there is no culture in Bakersfield) are not recognizing their culture. If you don't recognize culture then you are not a part of it. Culture is in the town, culture is in the bike path, culture is downtown, and culture is in the music and the theater. It is here."... N.L. Belardes local Chicano Author

I didn't think it was very bold. It just made me think....I'm 38 years old(or is 39?) , and I'm still keeping secrets like i was 14. What's the worse that can happen? Nothing. It's not like I'm going to get "in trouble", I'm a freaken adult!! But I think those stupid thoughts. As for the job, girl, so much has happened, I've been writing a bog for two Weeks now. You just made me want to finish it. Keep in mind, it's been since DEC since i wrote and life has turned many flips since then, some great, some not so great and some life changing. But I can tell you this much, My depression is officially over!! Thank you God. I will be posting tonight, come hell or high water. (Norman, get your boots out)

I am looking forward to the weekend so I can check out the book club. Gracias for your comment, I really needed some words of encouragement! My book is for adults; it's an adventure with romance and action and legends. I've been finding that the readers who love it and are constantly asking me for a sequel are women in their 30-50's, married with kids and careers. There have been a handful of men, too. It's a nice read, I think, meant for entertainment and a little escape from the everyday grind of life. Have you checked out the website? I created it by myself! I am very proud of it. :-)
