LATINO FOOD FEST & MENUDO COOK-OFF

You've heard it on The New 99.3 radio station. Everyone is talking about it and I can't wait for next Sunday, June 1st. What are we talking about? Just in case you your radio wasn't working, this is the news..........Las Noticias..........

The Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is presenting the LATINO FOOD FEST & MENUDO COOK-OFF on Sunday, June 1, 2008. The Menudo pots will be boiling, la salsa, chili, and family secrets will be poured into the Menudo and a winner will be selected by specially selected group of judges who will proclaim the best tasting Menudo of the event.

As the cooks are preparing thier best Menudo, spectators will be entertained by El Mariachi Tapatia and a local folklorico group. A local DJ will be playing the most popular music for your listenting and dancing pleasure. The Prisoners of Love will cause love to blossom in the dance floor so bring your dancing shoes.

Before you get a chance to take off those dancing shoes, you will be entertained by the featured Recording Artists........non other than, EL CHICANO. That's right!! You can't miss this event.

There will be over 10 food booths with a variety of your favorite foods that will make your taste buds also start dancing and throwing "chancla".

There will also be various vendor booths, drinks for all and the Margaritas will be chiling. The kids can run around freely in the Kid's area while their padres run around in the dance floor.

Okay...so now that you know, you got to get your ticket now. Save a buck and get them in advance from participating KCHCC outlets. Call the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce office at 661-633-5495 or listen to The New 99.3 for outlet locations.....one of them being GOTTA GO BAIL BONDS, 304 Chester Avenue, Ph: 326-8500.

If you want to enter the gates free, call the chamber office at 633-5495 and become a volunteer. The list is filling up so call now and get your name on the list.

Finally, remember to leave your ice chests and refreshments at home. If you bring them, they'll have to wait for you outside the gates. Be delighted that we'll have plenty of refreshments and food available for you at the Event.

O.P.Stylee at the Dome for taping of Damaged TV

Meatydish Productions will be taping live performances of 10+ local bands for Damaged TV. The show will air on channel 21 of Brighthouse Networks.

DAMAGED TV

American Smogg has been asked to be on KRAB radio's DAMAGED TV, on Bright House Networks ch. 21 on Thur. nights at 7:30 and on demand ch 300. The doors open at 11 am and 800lb Gorilla starts it off at 11:30am. American Smogg is on the stage at 5pm. Come out and show all the local bands some love, and get on TV. Other bands on the line up are: Box Jumper, O.P.Stylee, The Silence Club, Death from Above, Soulajar, Relapse Trigger, Armed and Hammered, My October, Right Cross, Inappropriate, sorry if I missed any.

Bluegrass Jam

If you like or are interested in Bluegrass Music we are holding a monthly bluegrass jam at Rusty's Pizza in the Olive Drive Vons' Shopping Center. The jam is held on the first Monday of each month and goes from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. The jams are well attended and all instruments are represented. Come on down to pick or listen.

Meet the people from American Sound Recording Studio, Bakersfield’s newest, state-of-the-art sound recording facility. We’ll get a first-hand look at these amazingly beautiful new studios and learn how anyone can cut a CD.

We’ll first meet at the Bakersfield Museum of Art at 6 p.m. for a bit of wine and cheese and to talk with ASRS staffers. Then we’ll take a walk down the block to the studios for a behind the scenes tour. You won’t want to miss this event!

Big John Bates and The Voodoo Dollz

Big John Bates is a "first-rate guitarist who melds rock, jump blues & punk ..."(Weekly Volcano - Tacoma) and is also the first Rock and roll band to add a Burlesque group (the Voodoo Dollz) to create "The Lowbrow Road Show". Originally influenced by The Cramps, Big John Bates began releasing albums in 2001 and created a stylistic niche in the blues-rock and kustom kulture scenes around the world, touring 15 countries and performing over 500 shows.

Although based in Vancouver Canada, Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz were the first neo-burlesque performers to take their live show throughout Europe and North America. European audiences seized upon them early and interviews with BJB & the Dollz have been featured on Europe's VH1 and National TV shows in France, Germany and Spain. Television in Canada and the USA has also featured this unique group as well as America's A&E_Network through documentaries on influential film-makers such as Russ Meyer.

The Voodoo Dollz are also the longest consecutively running burlesque troupe in Western Canada and have influenced many musical groups and countless other burlesque performers. The Dollz have even been counted as having re-introduced burlesque to personalities such as B-movie actress Tura Satana who herself initially influenced their infamous "Kitten With a Whip" burletta.
