My Hero is my Mother "Teresa Gomez"! Why you might say your mother! Well to me she is my mother and father. She has struggles to keep her family going. After losing her husband after 4 years of marrage he was murders. So she came to the U.S. to have a better future for her children. Yes, I can proudly say that me, my sister and mother are a few of thousands that cross the border for a better future. My mother brought us to the U.S. to have a future. There was times were we did not have meat to eat. As a child I did not think of it much on how my mother worked. For weeks we would eat potatoes, rice, beans. My mother found of ways how to cook them so that we could eat them. We ate that because that is the food she would be working in. She was a single mother working a full time job and raising two kids. She would leave to work at 5am to work and my sister and I had to get ready for school. We were the original latch key kids. There were times we would not even see our mother because she would be working at the packing sheds till like 1am. I really thank her for her struggle that she had to endure to give us food, a home, love, and support. Thank you Le doy gracias a dios por haberme dado una madre como tu.

My five year old son Franky is my hero. He has shown me the world through new eyes and has given me a greater understanding of life and God’s hand in it. In my love for him I have learned to see the reflection of God’s love for me. Here are some examples.
One day as I was watching TV, he ran across the living room and tripped. I watched it all unfold and dove towards him, catching his head in my hand just before it made contact with the corner of the table. I was really proud of the amazing save I made when my wife Gabriela asked me, “and how many times has God done that for you?” And I thought about all the times that God has rescued me from, or minimized the impact of bad situations and choices, and I was humbled.
Instead of patting myself on the back when I leave the last of the milk because Franky may want some cereal later, I thank God for the sacrifice he made for me. Or when I am about to strangle Franky when he tells me “okay” after getting lectured for misbehaving and then goes and does it again. I remember all the times that God has convicted me in my heart to change my behavior or attitudes and all the times I have told God “okay” only to go on struggling or all together fail. I then forgive Franky and give him another chance.

Dear Mas,
Ever since I was a little girl , I've been asked this question. "who is your
hero and why". I can honstly say I really put a lot of effort in answering
this. Is it the first lady.Is it a congress women or maybe one of my
teachers. I compare and contrast but no one stands out more in my mind than
my beloved madre. I don't doubt that a lot of people consider there mother to
be the best mom ever. All mothers are wonderful and are truley a God send.
My mothers name is Sonia Garza. She was born and raised in Tamaulipas
Mexico. My mom was married to her first husband at age 19. A few months after
their marriage, they suffered a horriable car accident and he was killed. A couple
of years later she made the move and crossed the Rio Grande to Texas
were she found work as a maid. Shortly after her move, she met and
married my father Carlos Castillo. They were married for 11 year
and they had 6 kids.Unfortunately, my father had a drinking problem which resulted
in there split.
By that time, we were already living in Arvin California. Mother was still an
"illegal" alien. So she spent her days raising 6 kids and at the same time
evading immigration. In the 80's, Arvin was commonly visted by I.N.S. No
matter how hard times were for us, we always had food in our belly's and clothes
on our backs. We all went to school and never had to worry about being less
fortunate than other famliy's. She always made us feel special, even if we
dressed from other peoples yard sales. My mother finally became a resident
of the U.S in 1986, under President Reagan. We moved to Bakersfield
California in 1999. We have lived here ever since. My mother works at
Grimmway Farms, she's been employed there for 11 years know.
My mother is a hard working, loving, caring women. She single handedly
raised 7 kids on her own. She never once regreted the outcome of her life.
She loves her family and is a wonderful grandmother as well. I try to show
her every day how much she means to me. She truley is my hero in every
aspect of the way. She could have given up. She could have let us fall
through the cracks of society. I have wonderful memories growing up. I
owe it all to her. It would mean so much to me and I know it will mean the
world to her to honer her hard work in this way. She knows we all love and
respect her for the women she is but it would make it that much more special.
I can't think of anyone else I admire more than my mom. She's an inspiration
to my siblings and myself. She is our hero.
