Ricardo Alvarado Amezola Ricky Alvarado was a joker, a soccer player, a brother and so much more to friends and family around him.
Unfortunately Ricky was torn from their side Nov. 18 when he died in a car crash on White Lane and Old River Road — one day shy of his 19th birthday.
Ricky was driving south on Old River Road when according to Bakerfield Police he ran a red light at White Lane and collided with a truck.
He died on impact.
The passenger of the truck, Daniel Pruitt, was taken to Mercy Southwest Hospital and later released.
Relatives said they have received conflicting information about what exactly happened at the scene.
Ricky’s family gathered for the services to remember the soccer player.
“He was a good guy,” said Jose Nava, a friend who played soccer with Ricky. “Ricky was a team player and he just respected everyone.”
Other friends described Ricky as outgoing and funny.
“He was a good person and always had a smile on his face,” said friend Sabrina Rios.
“I am going to miss every moment with him. He loved to dance and he was a joker,” added friend Karina Gonzalez.
Ricky was a 2004 graduate of East High School. While at East High, he played soccer.
After graduation, Ricky began working at a construction company with his father, but had dreams of returning to school and becoming either an architect or studying to be a mechanic.
“Ricky was smart and he was good at math,” said sister Lorena Alvarado. “Ricky and I grew up together and we were very close. I always remember him joking around with me.”
Lorena said she remembers how soccer made Ricky happy and helped him lose some weight, too.
Ricky began playing soccer at the age of 10 but admired the sport since he was small. His favorite team was America.
Friends remember Ricky as a guy who liked to party and loved to eat up to 15 mini-tacos in one sitting.
Family remember him as a kind and playful guy whom all the little kids liked to wrestle with.
“We miss him a lot. We miss every single moment we had with him,” Lorena said.
Diana Reyna and Daniella Lidia Rosales “What has happened has happened for a reason and couldn’t have happened any other way,” read the sign outside Daniella Lidia Rosales’ door. It was a quote from the film “The Matrix” that she was fond of and used to calm her mother’s nerves.
“She would remind me of the saying and tell me to not worry,” mother Bertha Rosales said.
Unfortunately something did happen.
On Nov. 19, both Daniella, 19, and her younger sister Diana Reyna Rosales, 16, died in a car crash.
Daniella was driving to Taft College for a barbecue with her sister tagging along. They did not make it to the barbecue because one of their tires gave out on Highway 223 and caused them to collide with an SUV. The girls vehicle then burst into flames burning the two beyond recognition. The three occupants of the SUV, Clarita Fulgado, Carmalita Gonzalez and Venus Cortes were also killed by the accident.
Más spoke with parents Bertha and Roy Rosales and asked them to tell us a little about their daughters. Here is what they had to say.
Daniella Lidia Rosales “Ever since she was small I knew she had the talent to be a very good softball player. I got both my daughters into sports early and they continued to play throughout high school. Daniella was a really good ball player and she loved playing shortstop. She was real athletic and played everything from volleyball and soccer in the softball off-season. She graduated in 2004 from Arvin High School and was attending Taft College to become a dental hygienist. Diana and Daniella were really close. Diana would miss Daniella when she couldn’t come home from college.”

“Daniella had a beautiful smile. She got along with everyone and was really friendly. I remember when we took her on her first trip to Mexico in 1994. She asked me why the kids were working and I told her because they had to so that they could get money. She started crying and then took it upon herself to give money to the young kids and the elderly. Daniella was the type of girl that would come up to you and give you a hug and a kiss when she said, ‘hello’.”

Diana Reyna Rosales “Diana has been nicknamed ‘pumpkin’ since she wore a pumpkin costume for Halloween when she was little. Diana was as beautiful as her older sister and she looked up to Daniella. She would get into her little troubles, but that was her way of doing things. She was like her sister, but she had this character about her. She had this fire in her. She was the little leader of her group of friends. ‘Pumpkin’ had her character, but she was still lovable.”

“I remember Diana was always on the phone. Her and Daniella would have little arguments about wearing each others’ clothes. Diana would borrow Daniella’s clothes and lend them to her friends and then Daniella would see Diana's friends wearing her stuff. Diana had a group of friends that she always hung out with and they called themselves PTS (princesses that sprinkle).”

“This was a terrible loss. We lost both of our daughters. Now it is just me and my wife in this big house,” Roy said.
“All our lives we spent on the fields with them,” Bertha said. “We want our daughters to know that we miss them. They are in our hearts. Someday we will be with them. They just got to heaven before us.”
