Last chance to apply for local scholarship program
  The Bakersfield-based nonprofit Heritage of America and Educational Foundation is seeking college students to apply for its scholarship program.

  Heritage of America has created the Chicano Latino Scholastic and Leadership Academy, which provides scholarships to Latino students who want to continue with their education.

   The program sponsors 25 scholarships of $1,000 each. In addition, the program will pay for tuition of two students to attend  Chicano Latino Studies classes through a partnership between Cal State Long Beach and Cal State Bakersfield. 

  So far, 20 of the scholarships have already been granted. There are five slots still available for qualified recipients.

  Interested students should submit applications by Friday, Dec. 16. Winners will be selected later this month.

Christmas dance for seniors
  The Richard Prado Senior Center will be hold a Christmas Party from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17.  The public is invited to attend.

  The night will feature Joe “Loco” Garcia and Los Tremendos de Nuevo Leon and include food such as pozole, tamales, rice and beans. Beer and margaritas will also be available for sale.

  Advance tickets for the dinner and dance cost $12 per person and $15 at the door. Tickets for the dance only cost $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Nicole Parra offers internship opportunity
  Assemblywoman Nicole Parra, D-Hanford, is accepting applications for her fall internship program.

  Interns will work out of her Hanford, Bakersfield and Sacramento offices.

  Candidates should be residents of the 30th Assembly District, possess solid research and communication skills, and have a strong interest in public policy and political issues facing the Central Valley.
