The Mission Statement is published in both English and Spanish as part of an ongoing initiative to connect to the Hispanic culture.
The new Mission Statement reads:
“Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”
The Spanish translation is not a literal translation so that the organization may better convey the cultural significance of the language:
“Girl Scouts ayuda a las niñas a desarrollar la confianza en sí mismas, el valor y los principios para hacer del mundo un mejor lugar.”
“The Girl Scout Mission statement has been updated to clearly reflect who we are today,” says
“This change was voted on by councils and members during the 2005 National Council Session/Convention. The Girl Scout mission has evolved ever since the organization’s inception in 1912, in order to remain relevant and meet the ever-changing needs of girls.”
Girl Scouts is able to build these values in girls through the great programming we offer. There are hundreds of options within Girl Scouts for girls to explore activities that interest them and will help shape their future. Girl often discover hidden talents or future careers through participating in patch programs with their troops.
Our new mission statement reflects the desire of the organization to take these experiences and teach girls that while they are having fun, they are also learning skills that will enable them to help become good citizens and make the world a better place.
