Hola MÁS readers! Here's a glimpse of what you'll see in this week's issue:

Til death do us part...

When it came to choosing a unique wedding location, this Bakersfield couple looked beyond "expected" and ended up taking vows at Union Cemetery. Under a cool, overcast day, everyone made their way to the reception hall to party the night away with more than 400-plus guests, much to the delight of the happy couple.

“It was the most unbelievable night of my life, everything went perfect,” said Noelia. Honeymoon plans include a vacation to NYC and Egypt, to take a trip down the Nile River.

El Chicano rocks on!

Performing on June 1 at the Latin Food Festival and Menudo Cook-Off  will be El Chicano, a group of friends that came to be international Latin rock musicians.

Mom to many

Myrtle Avenue School’s Jo Ann Rivera works with the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program, History Day, Oral Language Festival, Science Fair and Battle of the Books earning her a 2007-08 Kern County Teacher of the Year nomination.

“Teaching is not a profession for everyone. It needs to be a passion,” Rivera said. “You have to be a counselor, mentor, friend, surrogate parent, disciplinarian, classroom control expert, group dynamics facilitator, learning disabilities specialist, motivational speaker and coach, as well as a master of your subject matter."
