Q: Who has been your inspiration academically and why?
A: “I have very few memories of my childhood, but those that I can recall with certain lucidity involve my siblings. I can thank my older brothers Alejandro and Jose, the ‘spearheads,’ simply because of precedence: by setting the bar so high, their example challenged me to realize my potential academically, and that is just what I did.”
Q: What has been one of your most memorable high school moments?
A: “The obvious answer would be Grad Nite or Prom, but moving to Bakersfield was a much more memorable and even more portentous moment in my life. It’s very difficult to imagine where I’d be had I stayed in Chino. It was here that I accomplished all that I set out to accomplish and more. If given the opportunity to return to the past and continue high school in my hometown of Chino, I wouldn’t take that chance, lest I alter the outcome of my career as a student.”
Q: What do you see yourself doing five years from now?
A: “Five years from now, I imagine I will be attending graduate school.”
Q: And 10 years from now?
A: “Ten years from now, I see myself pursuing a career in engineering or architecture, perhaps married (which seems a bit outrageous to me at this age).”
Q: How do you plan to duplicate your success in high school at the university level?
A: “The phrase ‘success in high school’ calls to mind late nights and last-minute studying. I’m fairly certain procrastination will not work so well at the university level, so to duplicate my success in high school, I will quit procrastination. Rather than adopt new methods, I plan on discarding the ones that didn’t work.”
