Dear Denise,
I am trying to do a makeover on my 28-year-old boyfriend. He has long thick black hair that he puts in a wet ponytail all the time. He wears everyday kind of jeans and plain, wrinkled T-shirts.
I love him to death, but he really needs a fashion makeover. He also skips shaving his facial hair sometimes. Just imagine a sloppy-looking Alejandro Fernandez, the son of Vicente Fernandez.
What can I do to get him looking hot and in style? Help!
Signed,
Want a novio with style
Dear Want,
OK, Antonio Banderas cut his hair about five years ago! Girl, I don’t care if he hooked up with a white girl (Melanie Griffith) or not. The style now is obviously a more clean-cut style.
Maybe you should hook your man up with a “Day of Beauty Package” at your favorite salon where he can get some much needed pointers!
First of all, you can simply ease into the change by buying him an outfit you like. Go to a clothing store where you like the style, give them the measurements and do your best at picking what you think might look nice on him. Remember, if he is a size 40 waist, he can’t be sporting the Enrique Iglesias style.
Try thinking of someone who is your man’s build and go from there. Girl, I know we all want our men to look like Oscar De La Hoya, but let’s be realistic — this is B-Town!
I know cutting the hair may be difficult for him, but if you start with the little things like clothes it will probably make him more confident in trying to change the bigger things like the Fabio ponytail (please get rid of that, no matter what it takes!)
Good luck in your man’s much needed makeover venture!
Signed,
Denise
Dear Denise,
I remember you talked about this before, but can you remind what to do about manchas? I am starting to get a few dark spots on my face — I am becoming the tia I always avoided kissing as a child! What can I do to return my skin back to normal level?
Also, one of my nephews has some white spots on his face. He’s only 8 and he is a pretty brown skin tone, so what can I buy to even out his color?
Signed,
A loving tia
Dear Tia,
I know, I had a tia I never wanted to kiss or even hug!
About the manchas on the face, well, my first suggestion would be to try staying out of the sun as much as possible! Next, you need to invest in a great sunscreen that is light on the face but very effective such as Wilma Schuman Sunscreen.
The best thing you can probably do is to try and schedule yourself some microdermabrasion appointments. Please don’t try the kits that they sell on the shopping channels. They don’t work — it is a waste of dinero. Perhaps put your dollars into a series of micro-derm treatments, but make sure they are with a recommended esthetic specialist like myself!
If you do choose to take my wonderful advice, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, make sure you stay out of the sun when doing a series of microdermabrasion, because if you burn during the procedures, you can definitely scar your beautiful, Latina skin, and you know I could not handle that!
Good luck and be sure to investigate whoever you choose to trust your cara with!
Stay Beautiful!
Signed,
Denise
