Dance company seeks male dancers
SoLuna — a Kern County Dance company that incorporates classical ballet technique, dance theory and concepts with traditional Mexican Folk music and dance arts — is in need of male dancers for upcoming shows in April and May.
SoLuna has grown in the number of female dancers and is looking for male dancers ages 13 and older. No experience is required.
New and interested dancers meet at the Soluna dance studio on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The SoLuna dance studio is located off Olive Drive and Jewetta at 11605 Mezzadro Ave. in northwest Bakersfield.
General Artistic Director & Co-Founder Manuel Fonseca has extensive years of professional dance performance, training, teaching and touring experience throughout the southwestern U.S. and Mexico.
In 2005, Fonseca co-founded SoLuna alongside twin brother Darío and immediately became a member of the Arts Council of Kern and active teachers in the Migrant Education Program by providing dance classes and workshops to migrant youth in outlining schools. SoLuna is also a member of the Folk Dance Federation of California and is an active committee member of the
Bakersfield-Querétaro Sister City Committee out of Bakersfield City Mayor Harvey L. Hall’s office.

Can you serve?
The Superior Court Judges of Kern County are looking for volunteers to be a join the Kern County Grand Jury.
The Grand Jury is a group of 19 citizens in Kern who act as an investigative body to ensure that county and city governments are efficiently operated and that public funds are effectively spend.
The Grand Jury also hears evidence of public offenses presented by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office and, where appropriate, may issue criminal indictments.
Applicants must be willing to spend approximately 20 hours a week to perform these tasks.Grand Jurors are selected by random drawings from a pool of volunteer applicants nominated by the Superior Court Judges of Kern County.
Judges are very interested in obtaining a volunteer pool representative of the ethnic and cultural diversity. Candidates for the Grand Jury must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years of age, have a working knowledge of the English language and have resided in the county for at least one year. Grand Jurors serve for a one-year period beginning July 1.

Free reproductive seminar
Advanced Women’s Health Center of Bakersfield is bringing together leading experts in women’s healthcare to present a free seminar, “Advanced Reproductive Technologies” at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 3.
The free fertility seminar will allow couples to meet Dr. Lawrence B. Werlin, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist as well as Dr. Jason Helliwell, OB/GYN.
Werlin will address commonly asked questions and treatment options on basic infertility treatments, intrauterine insemination with ovulation induction, in-vitro fertilization and advanced reproductive technologies and laboratory procedures including intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
