Alfonso Gamino is Director of Personnel Services for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade at the Bakersfield City School District.
Gamino previously worked as a principal and a teacher.
“One of the highlights of my job is to call teachers with the good news that they were either selected for an assignment or a promotion. They get so excited about their new opportunity, and it makes me happy,” said Gamino, who is married with three children.
The Gaminos enjoy going to the park or batting range to practice softball and baseball. As a leader in education, Gamino had this to add regarding Kern County’s education system:
“My goal is to promote an all-around positive attitude for students, parents, teachers and principals so that they realize that they should be focusing on education foremost because they cannot control outside factors.” Gamino also shared some of his favorite songs with MÁS:
“Children of the Sun” — Billy Thorpe “As a child, I worked in the fields with many other hard-working immigrants, and this song reminds me of that time.”
“A Paso Del Norte” — El Gran Silencio “This song reminds me of the sacrifices my parents had made for us that we did not realize until they were older. I value them so much now for all they done.”
“Celebration”— Kool & The Gang “Well, I’m a happy person, and I believe we should always celebrate the little things in our lives everyday.”
“Beat It” — Michael Jackson “At that time, I liked the song. Michael Jackson was very popular.”
“Billie Jean” — Michael Jackson “This song reminds me of my junior high years, when I started noticing girls.”
