CSU to stop accepting applications from first-time freshmen Feb. 1
All 23 California State University campuses will stop accepting applications from first-time freshmen by Friday, Feb. 1. Prospective freshmen wishing to attend Cal State Bakersfield in the fall quarter must have their application submitted no later than Feb. 1.
This decision comes from the $386.1 shortfall in state funding to the CSU as proposed in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 2008-09 state budget. This funding gap will mean that 10,000 eligible students will not have access to the CSU this fall. The CSU along with faculty, staff and student groups will seek legislative support for the full CSU budget proposal.
“CSU Bakersfield is engaging in an all-out effort to make sure first-time freshmen wishing to enroll in the fall quarter have the opportunity to do so,” said CSUB President Horace Mitchell.
As long as an application for admission has been submitted on www.csumentor.edu by Feb. 1, students will have an opportunity to be granted admission at a CSU campus, including CSUB, subject to meeting admissions requirements.
Application submission assistance for prospective students will be held at CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the CSUB Walter Stiern Library. There will be designated parking in Lot D during these times. Additionally, CSUB will be holding on-site admission sessions at many local high schools at dates to be announced.
The application deadline does not apply to fully eligible upper division transfer students, international students and non-resident students. Details, call the Admissions and Records Office at 654-3036.
