Age: 41
Profession: DJ and promotions manager of La Maquina Musical
Personal: A wife, Lucy, 34; three children, Dafne, 16; Christian, 13; and Adiel Angel, 7 months.
When Luis “El Gordo” Dieguez isn’t on air on La Maquina Musical 100.5 F.M. he enjoys hanging out with his family and friends.

Crossed lines: “I never dreamed that I would be a DJ. I thought I would be a doctor or lawyer like my parents wanted me to. While I was growing up in Guadalajara and during the ’80s there was a problem of lines getting crossed. Well, one time I was waiting on hold when the lines got crossed and a girl answered the phone. She sounded cute and she told me to talk live on air and that’s how I became a DJ.”

Community minded: “With La Maquina here in Bakersfield now, I hope to be more visible in the community. I want to participate in community events. If there’s a diabetes walk, I want to participate in it. Helping the community is something I always want to do.”

On air: “When I’m on air I am different person. I love playing romantic songs. If I like a song, I will turn it up full blast and sing along. I love talking to my listeners and hearing what they have to say.”

Poker, anyone?: “I don’t have what you consider hobbies, but when I’m not working I like hanging out with the guys to play a game of cards.”

A roquero at heart: “I love music. Believe it or not, I have a rocker’s soul. I love White Riot and ACDC, but I love disco and regional Mexican groups like Los Humildes, too.”

The one that I want: “I don’t know what it is about her, but I love Olivia Newton-John. Even now when I see her I think of ‘Grease’ and she’s Sandy.”
