California State University, Bakersfield will present “Arte De La Gente” (The Art of the People) through Nov. 16 at the Todd Madigan Gallery.
The free exhibition — which opened Thursday, Oct. 2 — features both traditional and contemporary artwork by Mexican artists from the 20th Century.
There will be 31 pieces from Dr. Richard and Rebecca Zapanta’s private collection.
“As the new director, I wanted to open the fall exhibit with something that I feel the community would both enjoy and benefit from,” said Deanna Heikkinen, interim gallery director at the Todd Madigan Gallery. “In addition, I wanted to provide an outlet where people could learn more about Mexico’s heritage.”
Artists with works on display include: Sacal; Diego Rivera; David Alfaro Siqueiros; Rodolfo Nieto; Jose Luis Cuevas; Vladimir Cora; Raul Anguiano; Leonora Carrington; Rodolfo Morales; and Alfredo Zalce.
