Que pasa homies.  Welcome back to In the Mixx. Well, after taking my little Kenzie to all her gymnastic competitions, what seems like every weekend, driving out of town to cities I haven’t even been to, I have to say someday I hope she makes it to the Olympics. Que suave if she does.

That’s one reason I haven’t been writing and keeping you informed on what’s happening in this city — by the time I get home, well, you know all I’m thinking about is that beautiful bed of mine, lol ...  but this time we got back early. So let’s get In the Mixx and see what’s going on this weekend...

Salsa with Son Tropical
Tonight, Friday, Oct. 17, if you like that cool, salsa Latin jazz musica, then head on over to Camino Real Restaurant, 3500 Truxtun Ave. Have a cold cerveza and dance to the salsa sounds of Son Tropical from 7 to  10 p.m.  21 over with ID and no cover charge, just good music and cold drinks. Kick it with DJ Damage tonight at Señor Pepe’s
For that hip hop flavor and mash-ups, tonight, Friday, Oct. 17, Señor Pepe’s, 8450 Granite Falls Drive, is the place to  be. DJ Damage and guest DJs will be rocking the turntables starting at 10 p.m.  Come down and celebrate your birthday or just kick it with the homies. No cover charge and cool drink specials all night. Show off your pintura this weekend
This one’s for the ones who are all sleeved down, been in the pintura, or has one of those, you knooowww, a stamp on the lower backkk, lol, well ... this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19, Central Valley Tattoo presents the 5th Annual Bakersfield Tattoo Expo at the Rabobank Convention Center, 1001 Truxtun Ave.

Come and check out over 80 of the world’s greatest tattoo artists like Mike Furgusen, Oliver Peck, Permanent Mark and many more. Tickets are $15 per day or $25 for the weekend, plus VIP passes will also be available online at: www.centralvalleytattoo.com. Lots of vendors, contests, artist seminars, and more. Grind Away with skateboard legends Jay Adams & Christian Hosoi
OK, something positive. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19, The Shindig, Stay Focused Ministries and Garden Pathways will present Grind Away skateboard competition at The Gate, 20th & O streets. So if you skateboard, you’re gonna want to be here. Lots of Free Food, live music, some cool Pro-Demo and lots of giveaways.

Also, skateboard legend, Christian Hosoi, in person and the original dogtown skater Jay Adams. All this starting at 2 p.m. For more info, call Stay Focused Ministries, 322-HOPE.
 

 


 

Daisy & more on the horizon
Time for Noe G’s head’s up. Local recording artist, Daisy, is performing live Nov.  2, for a Dinner/Concert at The Jaguar Hall, 516 California Ave., along with Mariachi Monumental de America,  famous Mexican trio, Los Dandys, and from Bakersfield, Mariachi Real de Jalisco. Doors open at 5 p.m. and tickets are $50 which you can purchase by calling 203-3116. Don’t miss this awesome show!

Also, Spanish recording artists Los Tigres Del Norte perform at the Rabobank Arena Nov. 1. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $50-$100 at all ticketmaster.com. OK, there’s your heads up. Go hook them tickets up before they sell out!
