Hola, MÁS Magazine readers:

Hope you have some great Fourth of July plans with friends & familia! With a little luck, maybe it won't be quite so hot when we're all out barbecuing and enjoying a safe fireworks show ... but, it's Bakersfield and it's summer ... what are you gonna do?

Be sure to look for the July 2009 issue of MÁS in The Bakersfield Californian, our parent company, Sunday, July 5. If you subscribe to the paper, that's great — your MÁS will be inserted into your Sunday edition. If you don't take the paper, don't worry, you can still find MÁS in single-sale copies and at our various rack locations. For a list of where to find our racks, click here.

To read the magazine online, click here.

But for now, we'd like to give you a sneak preview of what you'll find in the July 2009 issue of MÁS. Just click on the headline or the photo for each item and you'll go straight to the article on our Web site:

¡Esta Risto!

Whether comforting grieving families, inspiring Latino students or making a difference in the community he loves, Risto Rubio has found his life’s purpose. Read our cover story about the newest VP at Mission Family Mortuary and how his life has unfolded to a point where he's doing what he's meant to do.

From the blogs

Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the UFW, was the invited speaker for the CSUB graduation ceremony June 13. The result? Controversy over whether the nature of her speech was appropriate for the occasion and the audience. We wanted to know what YOU think, so we asked our MÁS online community to participate in a thoughtful discussion on the matter. We asked, you answered. Check out the comments from the blogs ... And be sure to add your viewpoint, too! Also, look for the comments in the printed edition of MÁS, too. Thank you to our bloggers!

The making of IKON EVENTS

With a goal to make clients happy, make events fresh, make designs unique, the gente behind IKON EVENTS are primed and ready to make your Big Day — wedding or quinceañera or any special time — even more than you could hope for!

Remembering La Bendicíon

Writer Vicki Adame recalls the comfort she — and so many other Latinos — received from traditions like La Bendicíon. Perhaps we take it for granted, but it's those little blessings that mean a great deal to our cultura.
