Hola, MÁS Magazine readers:

So the summer is winding down — just a few weeks before the niños head back to school. But if they're bored by now, that might be a good thing — right, parents out there? Hope you and your familia will be able to enjoy one more summertime getaway, hopefully to some cool destination!

But if you're going to be home this weekend, be sure to look for the August 2009 issue of MÁS in The Bakersfield Californian, our parent company, Sunday, Aug. 2. If you subscribe to the paper, that's great — your MÁS will be inserted into your Sunday edition.

If you don't take the paper, don't worry, you can still find MÁS in single-sale copies and at our various rack locations. For a list of where to find our racks, select the "rack locations" tab located on our home page, click here.

But for now, we'd like to thank all our loyal MÁS readers & advertisers out there! We appreciate all your support! And now, we'd like to give you a sneak preview of what you'll find in the August 2009 issue of MÁS. Just click on the headline or the photo for each item and you'll go straight to the article on our Web site:

Carrying the torch with mariachi music

Our cover story takes a look at the sweet sounds of the Kern County Youth Mariachi group. They will be hosting a big fundraiser Aug. 16 — check out the story for the details and be sure to support these young people who carry the torch for one of the best parts of our cultura.

Señora Patiño retires

Come this school year, class won't begin for Señora Patiño. She's now retired after 24 years of being a beloved Spanish teacher, who shared her love of the language and the Latino history with so many students. See how she even inspired one of her pupils to become a Spanish teacher himself!

Super superintendent in Delano

She grew up in Delano and came back to Delano. Superintendent Rosalina Rivera of the Delano Joint Union High School District spends her days helping her students, her staff and her community. Read about this popular Delano resident and the impact she's making on our future leaders.

Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
