Monterey Bay Aquarium — on MÁS!
Contest winner reports on trip she won from us!

Where should my son, Brendan, and I go on vacation this summer?”
That was the big question on my mind last month.
I wanted to go somewhere we’d never been, plus it had to be a place to escape this Bakersfield heat.
My question was answered when I was notified that I won Monterey Bay Aquarium tickets from MÁS Magazine! I quickly booked a room, packed our things and headed north!
When we arrived at the Aquarium entrance we were quickly greeted by a nice employee who told us what activities/programs were about to start.
We decided to first go see the “Kelp Forest Feeding,” where you can watch a scuba diver feed a variety of underwater creatures. We then continued to their “Touch Pool,” an indoor pool where you can touch live starfish, sea snails and even eels!
When it was lunch time we visited their cafeteria. They had everything from pizza to grilled chicken sandwiches, and my son was in heaven when he got his giant slice of cheese pizza.
After we finished our lunch, we went outside and saw some kids that looked as if they were suited up to go into outer space. Brendan immediately wanted to see what these kids were doing.
Come to find out they were about to ‘surface scuba dive.’ It was for 8 to 13 year olds. How cool is that?
I signed Brendan up and for the next 90 minutes he learned how to put a “dry suit” on, breathe from an air tank, snorkel, what to expect when you’re in the water, and how to stay safe. Then off he went into the water to go surface scuba diving. I can honestly say I’ve never seen him happier. The parents have a great view of their kids and it’s very safe.
Afterwards we watched the “Seahorse Magic” show. It was a great show for both kids and parents. Throughout the rest of the day we visited many other exhibits.
We got to see our favorite animal — a sea turtle and, of course, the cutest furry animal out there, a sea otter. We finished the day visiting the gift shop where we bought a cute stuffed animal sea turtle, along with some gifts for family and friends.
I will definitely be visiting this place again very soon! Thanks, MÁS!
