Dirty Laundry

I was at the laundromat this morning. I had to take my comforter in because my lovely little puppy decided it made for a good toilet and pee'd on it.

Anyways, while I was there all these old memories popped up of my childhood and having to go with my mom once a week to help her wash and sort the laundry.

Of course at the time it was a "treat" to go. At least for me it was. See, every time I went with her I'd make a new friend whether it'd be a kid from school or a lonely old lady needing the company or whatever.

It's also where I had the best conversations with my mom. AND where I got all the good gossip from listening to her and whatever comadre she'd be talking to who happened to be washing her clothes there at the same time.

"fijate que..."

"AY No me digas! Apoco?"

Then there was the trip to the mini mart next door when we ran out of dimes and of course my mom gave me extra money to buy myself a little treat.

Yes, the laundry mat was a good time for me full of awesome memories.

Of course then I became a mother and going to laundromat was a chore and half. With two kids in tow, I'd take off with my baskets full of dirty clothes and my rolls of quarters. Trying to hold my kids hands so they wouldn't run off and hang on to the baskets at the same time as not an easy thing.

It was tough.

Then of course trying to keep my kids entertained enough to where they wouldn't ask, "Are we almost done yet? How bout YET? NOT YET? How much longer?"

I can't imagine how mi mami did it without losing her sanity all those years.

Of course now that my kids are older and I don't have to worry about them anymore and going to the laundromat is once more like it was when I was child. I sit there and people watch.

Or I pretend like I'm reading a book and eavesdrop on conversations and catch up on all the "good gossip" of people I'll never meet and situations that may never affect me.

It's better than a soap opera. Actually it's better than any reality t.v. show you watch because it's REAL and I'm a part of it. Sort of.

It was nice. And even in the middle of all the commotion of washing machines swooshing, and dryers spinning, and mothers yelling, and kids crying, and couples arguing, and old men smoking, it was quiet. And it was sorta kinda a little bit of "me" time.

I sat back, absorbed it all, let it all sink in. I was reliving all those neat laundromat childhood memories. And it was nice.

ha yeah right. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed my time there but if I had to it once a week? OH HELL-to-the-NO! LOL
Twinks, I do have fun memories of the laundromat! I love people watching too! And I love sitting on my butt! So, I think I need to maybe "break" my washer and dryer so that I can go again! Thanks for that!
I know. I really wanted to go. Last year it was at the old Gottshalks, right? And it was nice but it was soooo jam packed. When I heard this year it was going to be at the Nile I got really excited. Then I realized we had plans for that night. Oh well. NEXT YEAR!

Hey, hey, now Twinkie! :) LOL haha... Yes, Earlimart did have a laundromat. I think two actually. Woofs did you guys go to the one by Campos store?? haha

I remember those days too. I never even imagined what a hassle it was for my mom to go to the laundromat with 4 kids. Oh and we didn't have a car, but she did have a double stroller for my two younger siblings. She would fill that stroller with as many clothes as she could. It was mine and my brother's job to pick up anything that fell on the floor as we walked to the laundromat. On rare occasion, my mom would give us a quarter to play the arcade games inside. :) Ahhh... the good ol' days! :)

By the way, I was hoping you would be at the Nile for Dia de los Muertos last week. :)

ohMY!!!! That's awesome that they have that many kids and only ONE is a druggie. Although honestly studies have shown that bipolar children have a higher tendency to do drugs if not medicated and monitored properly. That's what happened to my man Robert Downy Jr.

Woofs.. I am cracking up at that game you girls played. hahaha... I love it. But one question... Earlimart had a laundromat? hahah just kidding girl. JUST KIDDING.

My older sister has six children.    When they were young, they lived in a tract house with terrible sewer drainage, a septic tank with no drainage.  So, she would bundle all her kid's laundry up and go to a laundromat.  She liked to go early so she could take about ten machines at a time.  Her husband worked nights so was never "able" to help. He played golf on the weekends in the summer,  or watched football games.  She still says they couldn't afford to go anywhere because of the family size, but I say you are not Catholic and chose to have all the kids.  Anyway, she said when we last visited (On our trip) that they wanted 13 kids.  I think all that sex affected her mind, poor thing.  All the kids but one are very successful now however, and the one not, is bipolar and a druggie.  You can't win them all.
I remember going to the laundromat with my mom and two sisters:) we would get so bored. We even made games of watching the cars go by. YES WE DID:) Ok you get every third car and thats the car that would be YOUR car when you grow up,,ONE,,TWO,,THREE,,THATS YOUR CAR. And it was some gosh awful clunker. Then their turns:) Whats a few Mexican kids to do when your bored right:) GOOD TIMES though.
When at the laundromat it seems EVERY time you take your clothes out of the dryer,,,no matter how careful you are,,YOUR UNDIES FALL ON THE FLOOR. You look around and it seems EVERYONE IS STARING AT YOU!!! I swear EVERY GOSH DANG TIME!!!
