My friend sent me an email this morning and I asked her permission to post it word for word on my bakotopia.com/MAS blog.. and anywhere I could think it could help somebody. Please share this with anyone and everyone that will listen. And feel free to share your thoughts about the subject here!
*sidenote..this is NOT an "email forward". This email was actually sent to me by my friend.
I don't know if I told you that my sister's husband, my BIL, felt like there was something on one of his eyes a few weeks back. He couldn't really explain it but felt like a speck of sand or something was on his eye. He let it go for 3 days and finally told my sister that he needed to go to the eye doctor becaue it was really starting to bother him. The eye doctor ran whatever tests and it turned out his retina had detached in 4 places! They rushed him in for immediate eye surgery and said he would have been completely blind in that eye within hours.
He had the surgery and everything seemed ok and they assured him his eye would be getting better and stronger. But he is noticing that not only is his eye getting weaker, but he is starting to feel like his other eye is weakening. The doctors do not know what it could be.
FAST FORWARD:
My sister was doing one of her client's hair TONIGHT who is married to an opthomalogist and asked her questions about why his eye could possibly be doing this since it's not heriditary. Her client started asking her numerous questions. One of them was, "By chance, does your husband take Viagra?"
My sister was stunned because he does. He just started 6 months or so ago.
She told my sister that it came out in the Medical journals in 2005 that there may be a link between Viagra and blindness.
She immediately called me to tell me and ask me had I heard of anything like that in news reports before. I googled to see if it could be substantiated and there were PLENTY of medical articles and credible news associations (CNN, Washington Post, etc) who mentioned the possible link in 05' because the blood supply to the eyes are blocked or redirected. Pfizer is (probably) keeping this as hush as possible because they have made millions upon millions of dollars and for all we know they have the FDA in their pockets, as the FDA continues to insist there is no substantial link and putting it on other factors (that didn't apply to him).
If you know of ANYONE taking Viagra, Cialis, Levitra please read the articles below and/or pass it on. Because I know someone personally (possibly) affected by this, I wanted to make sure everyone read this. Some people suffered blindness as soon as 48 hours after takng their first dose. He's been taking it for about 6 months. He is now suffering permanent vision loss in the "corrected' eye and is feeling the affects on the other. I'm watching this vital man (who has always been so charismatic and generous) starting to die inside as his vision goes. He also makes the bulk of their household income and provides their medical so they are really worried about what may happen.
The news and medical reports also stated the octal damage is irreversible.

I'm the one who originally sent "Twinkie" the email. My rant and name calling against Pfizer and FDA was an emotional response from seeing someone I know personally suffer sudden vision loss. Can I tout it as absolute fact - no. Although I'm no doctor and there is no hard proof (they say) as to whether or not there is a direct link between blindness and some Viagra users, I just find it awfully coincidental that my BIL had sudden vision loss, uses Viagra and we find out that as early as 2005 medical journals came out with articles regarding the possible alarming side effect of sudden vision loss while using Viagra and other impotency drugs.
WoofWoof (I can't type your name without cracking a smile) your comment made me gasp aloud. That is astonishing! Have we heard or read about this type of effect in mainstream media? Apparently there have been Viagra users who've complained about hearing loss as well (see articles Twinkie posted). Reading your comment leads me to believe that fluid build up (of blood) would cause such an effect. How can men not be privy to this in mainstream? You can't watch a sports program without a Viagra, Cialis or Levitra commercial at every break listing all of the wonders it's doing for families. How many families have suffered from a father, brother or son going blind? Evidently there were enough occurrences to prompt the FDA to finally make it mandatory for the makers of the impotency drugs to post the possibility of sudden vision or hearing loss warnings onto their bottle labels and advertisements in 2007 - two full years after the 2005 article first broke. I'm sick of corporate America's profits taking priority over human safety and security in this country. Corporate America's greed has in my opinion crippled this country economically in so many ways, now we are allowing them to do this literally? Ugh. I'm sick of it.
I have a best friend taking Viagra. He says when he would take a pill ,,he would bleed out his ears. And the pills take blood from ALL over the body to redirect it to the "MEMEBER". That he then tried half a pill. But same thing ,,not as bad. I said don't risk your life for this. He is newly divorced and dating younger Women,,its not worth losing your life or your health. Great sex really isn't every ting in life.
this what my friend had to say about not hearing about the link between viagra and vision loss in the :
Because Pfizer is the numer one pharmaceutical company in sales INTERNATIONALLY. They are the darling of the US pharmaceutical industry.
The FDA is like the mob and I don't care what anyone says, they make money becaue nothing can be put on the market without them. Whatever Pfizer cmes out with they approve.
I just read in an article that finally in October 2007, after severe pressure from the opthomalogy (sp?) community, they added that vision loss as a possible side affect.
When thinking of terms of physical loss with a limb, hair, hearing, eyesight is the absolute worse! How can this not have made major news?!
You know, I've heard this before....thatt you would go blind if you used Viagra. I just took it as a joke and never thought serious about this enhancement pill and never talked to anyone that actually took it nor did I read any material on it but I did hear of side effects and this being a hard subject, I felt I had no need for it. I also heard that if you were under heart medication, it would be best not to use it. I guess if I ever need some type of enhancement pill, I would surely read everything I could on it. I mean, I don't want anything to break or fall off because of the side effects. I'm just wondering if there have been other cases besides this one with certain side effects.
Aww, that is sooo sad. It takes a lot of courage for a man to even walk into a doctors office and admit they might need some help in that department. Here is a generous man who provides for his familty in every aspect and this happens?!? Terrible, Terrible! I wish that family the strength and endurance to continue on forth through this ordeal.
