So, my boss says I can leave early today because I have a few things to do when I get home. Not your typical grocery shopping, laundry or beer drinking. This stuff is pretty important to the people around me.
So these three things are all happening sometime between 5 and 8 p.m.
The first involves the Delano Chamber of Commerce seeking parent and child input regarding money it plans to use to put playground equipment at a local park.
The other involves taking my son, Aidan, 7, and my daughter, Alysa, 6, to their school book fair.
And the third is to go and listen to Dolores Huerta speak on "The Power of Women in the 21st Century" at BC's Delano Campus. It's part of the college's Women's History Month presentations.
Don't get me wrong, my wife and I can divide up the duties. But as a dad, I want to be part of my kids' book fair. And I also think the community's parks and playgrounds are important to my family.
I also want to listen to Dolores, because then I can come back and write up something for the MAS Web site, as well as it's magazine.
I know it's kind of late to post something like this. But as in real life, some of these things were known about weeks ago, and others just a few days.
So what do you think? Should I try to make them all? What do YOU do when you have conflicting events, important to you, your family and your job.
Let me know!

It was part of the Violence Against Women Awareness Month's activities, I believe? Or Women's History month? or something? Anyways...
Lots of booths were there from organizations that help women who have been abused etc. Democratic Women of America was there, some health people were there talking about women's rights.. etc..
They had folkloric dancing, women speakers, etc.
The Princess Twinkie is actually the one that drug me out of the house to go to it. She heard about it through work (she works at Starbucks) and plus one of her friends was hosting a booth. And another friend was scheduled to speak. It was fun. I took some pictures I'll hopefully upload later.
I was really sick (still am) so I missed another even I really wanted to go to which was the Vagina Monologues in Bakersfield. I go every year. But after the COS thing I was beat.
I made it out to all three. We got to the book fair last. Found out only my two kids and one other kid actually went to the book fair that night. It continues through this week.
Still, my kids managed to spend about $65 on books, pencils and other things. I'm sure they'll spend more this week, hopefully JUST on books.
Dolores Huerta's speech was pretty good also. We'll have a short story and photo on her speech in the upcoming MAS.
The other meeting regarding the park equipment (at Cesar Chavez Park in Delano), was in two parts. We made it to the kids' part, which allowed them to use crayons to draw up their "dream playground." Only about 10 kids turned out. But they had some grand ideas. Several kids wanted a rock climbing wall.
And, my wife and I still got home by 8 p.m.
So what was going on at COS this weekend?
Did you make it to all the events? I went to a similar event this weekend in Visalia, at COS.. we missed Dolores Huerta speech though. It was still a great event.
