About Lisa Wuertz

I've been writing since high school. It all started with the "sophmore project" over at Ridgeview High School.  Sophmore projects were a collection of short stories, essays, poems and photographs that we each put together and turned in at the end of the year. I was one of the few who actually took the project seriously. From then on I was hooked with writing. I still write poetry here and there, but the bulk of my writing is blogging and news articles.

I also love to take pictures. I've been doing that since my 6th grade Camp KEEP trip. Back then the pictures were pretty silly. I still have some of them. One is a mug shot of my best friend, face painted like a Native American. Another is my friend Jenny screaming in surprise because the pillow she was using to hide behind and avoid pictures fell to the ground. There are a lot of pictures of deer and streams too. I almost always have a camera with me and have been known to take random shots of rainbows that appear as I'm driving down the road. I like taking candid shots and shots of nature. I don't like prearranged shots like the kind they put you in with your family at Olan Mills. I especially don't like being IN one of those pictures. I think pictures should reflect life the way it is. Pictures of me and my sisters laughing and goofing around are much more meaningful to me than our official "family pictures."

I am an avid reader. Books I've read and recommend:
-Front Row at the White House: My Life and Times by Helen Thomas
-Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston
-The Elements of Journalism: What Newspeople Show Know and the Public Should Expect by Bill Kovach and Tom Rosentiel
-Philosophical Issues in Journalism by Elliot D. Cohen
-Walk On: The Spiritual Journey of U2 by Steve Stockman
-The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
-Wild Swans by Jung Chang
-Emma by Jane Austen
-The Prince & The Art of War by Niccolo Machiavelli
-Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
-No Man is an Island by Thomas Merton
-The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis
-Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
-The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer
-Consumer Joe by Paul Davidson
-Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton
-Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
-Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal by Eric Schlosser
-Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster
-The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
-Dangerous Wonder and Messy Spirituality by Mike Yaconelli
